My Favourite Bloggers

I try not to spend too much time blogging about blogging.

I find it all a bit weird and meta, and of no interest to anyone except other bloggers.  And anyway, if truth be told, other people write those posts far better than I do.

I will not be telling you how to monetise your blog (if someone knows the answer to this, and it doesn’t involve selling your soul, please let me know), or which WordPress plugins to use (because all the ones I do use, I found out about from the other people who do write those posts and hence can only conclude that everyone else knows more than me), and I will certainly not be celebrating my blogging birthday, mainly because if I am ever asked how long I’ve been blogging, I don’t really know what to say.  Do we start from those ramblings on MySpace back in 2006?  Who remembers MySpace, guys?  When you used to click on someone’s page and you would make a snap decision about whether or not you liked them based on whether you liked the bangin’ choon that started playing as you hovered over their details.  Please tell me it’s not just me.  My first proper blog in 2008?  When I first went self-hosted (can’t remember when that was), the beginning of this blog (January 2013), or when this blog went public (round about this time last year-ish?  So is my blog only a year old then?)  I don’t feel like a new blogger, nor do I feel that I can describe myself as such with any sincerity, but I am constantly amazed and more than a little bit jealous by how much some people seem to know about getting their blogs noticed and/or making money within a terrifyingly short space of time.

And in the meantime I continue plodding along, writing stuff no one reads.

I have also noticed that there seem to be an awful lot of new blogs springing up all the time, and they seem to be getting better and better in quality.  So, in the spirit of being nice about that and all, rather than just sitting behind my keyboard sweating and grimacing over the thought of all that competition and ineptly plotting the best way to climb the greasy pole of blogging success from behind my computer screen with a glass of wine and a large dose of envy, I thought I would take the opportunity to publicise some of these new blogs to my couple of readers (hello Mum!), and give a shout out to those I have enjoyed reading recently.

There are only three, because I am ruthless very discerning.  But I’m sure that I have missed out LOADS, particularly as I am not as good as I should be at keeping up to date with my reading, so I should probably try to make this a regular feature.

Because why not?  It’s always nice to be nice, as my dear old dad used to say.

So here they are:

The Frenchie Mummy

This lady keeps popping up on linkies all over the place and everywhere.  How is this possible?  It took me months to work out what a linky was.  Anyway, I love the smattering of French phrases in every post, and she is always guaranteed to make me laugh.

Mouse, Moo and Me Too

The newest member of the #tribe (say no more), Mouse is witty, clever and reminds me a bit of myself I love her writing style.  She is also a fan of a garden centre, which makes her a lady of very discerning tastes, even if I do say so myself.

Mess and Merlot

Another fabulous blogger I have recently discovered.  I just know that M&M and I would get on if we met in real life, although that might be something to do with the beverage in the title?

So there we are, just a very tiny selection of new blogs that I like.  You can now say that you have got the official Single Mum Speaks Seal of Approval, which is obviously a very sought after accolade.  You’re welcome.

If you think my blog is in any way, shape or form vaguely decent, please consider voting for me in the Best Writer or Comic Writer category in the Mumsnet Blog Awards.  Well, a girl’s got to ask.

Thanks! I seem to have lost a few badges in the changeover though, including my TOTs one (a hard-fought top 500 one, no less!) I need to retrieve asap before I get relegated.

  5. Ah MySpace, I used to love that site, then Facebook came along and MySpace was no longer relevant. I’ve also been around in some form blogging for many years, though on and off. #triballove

Yes, me too! Although to be fair very few of my actual friends were on MySpace, then they suddenly all joined Facebook when that materialised. It was a lot more user friendly!

Haha I used to change my MySpace tune every week! I kid you not, all my friends used to go on to see what my song would be that week! Oh the good old days! Great blogs too! I wholeheartedly agree! Lucy xx #triballove

    1. Min says:

Yes, you had to change them regularly to show how cool your taste in music was!

  7. OMG! I just clicked on this post as I was thinking ‘What a great idea’ and then I see my name!!! Thank you so much for saying that I am a bit funny. Trying hard as I am not always like that, especially with Grumpy Boyfriend. I love the other blogs you mentioned too and yours! What a small world. Funny what you said about having to sell your soul to make it. I might be doing that a bit… Oh well, I have always been a good girl, so it’s time for me to be a bit naughty. xxxxx

    1. Min says:

Haha, keep doing what you are doing! Sorry I should have tweeted you to tell you about your feature, but didn’t get round to it. Hoping to make it a bit of a regular feature.
